Y1 Bag Making Workshop
Thank you to all of our parents in Heron's for joining us for the bag-making workshop this morning. The bags are fabulous, and Florence Nightingale would be very grateful to have them.

Year 1 had a fabulous afternoon on their tour of Tamworth. They visited the industrial estate, Hopwas village, the Robert Peel Hospital and Ventura. They also looked at the different types of houses and spotted the rivers and canals.
We love seeing what the children have been achieving at home through Tapestry and celebrating this in school. Isla-May has been working hard on her letter formation using some of our Little Wandle resources. Amazing work Isla-May - keep it up!!
Please share achievements from home with us, as we love to celebrate these with the children.
We are very lucky that Ben Davis our local postman is also an author. He took some time out from posting letters today to come into school and share some of his work with us. Ben spoke about his job as an author, and shared how he gets his ideas. He read extracts from some of his stories with us and also signed copies of books the children had purchased and brought into school with them. The children had the chance to ask questions too! A massive thank you to Ben from Year 2 and Year 3.
On Tuesday, some of our Year 3 Reading Ambassadors started reading with Reception and Year 1 at break time and lunch time both in our library and the classrooms.
Thank you to our Kingfishers families for joining us yesterday to celebrate their achievements in Rock It Music so far this year. The children wowed everybody with their keyboard skills, playing a range of pieces from a waltz to a rock medley. They also shared a song that they had composed using the Anker Valley values. Well done Kingfishers!
We would like to introduce our new Reading Ambassadors. These children are responsible for looking after the library and ensuring that all the resources are put back carefully. They are also going to be listening to and reading with the children in Reception and Year 1 at lunchtimes and break times and when we have special visitors in school they will be speaking to them about reading at Anker Valley too! They have beautiful badges to wear on their uniforms as well.
Since the start of the year, Mrs Williams and Kingfishers have implemented Our Time To Enjoy Reading (O-T-T-E-R) and from this half term we are rolling this reading for pleasure initiative out to all year groups. Each week a child from the class will be selected to bring home a reading journal and companion (a chosen soft toy for each class). Over the week, the child can take the soft toy on adventures and introduce them to family and friends but most importantly share a book with them and complete a page in the journal to show what they have been up to and what they have read together. The soft toy and journal need to be returned to class by the following Friday ready to share in class before the next child gets to take it home. We hope you enjoy your time together reading at home.

Today, the children in Kestrels have prepared the ingredients, cooked and sampled Jollof rice. This was definitely more popular than the cinnamon and honey flavoured yoghurt last week! The recipe will be shared on Arbor in case you’d like to have a go at cooking it together at home.
